Mary Ann Payne
Orphan. Mary Ann emigrated from England in 1843. She came with her father, mother, and siblings. They sailed on the Swanton, and arrived in New Orleans on 16 March 1843. Her father and mother both died before being able to come to Utah. She and her siblings were placed in different families in order to come West. She helped care for her youngest brother, Samuel, as she crossed the plains. In some sources the surname is spelled "Paine" or "Pane."
She married George Spencer in 1855 and Brigham Knight in 1890. The surname of "Knight" appears on her Death Certificate and tombstone.
