Mary Grimshaw
There is simply a William Smith listed on the roster for the 1852 Weeks Company. It does not indicate that he was traveling with any family, however, that column is blank for many others near his name, inferring that the information was just omitted for that group of people, rather than that they were all traveling alone. Also, the record indicates he possessed two wagons, five oxen, and five cows, so it would have been impossible for him to really be traveling alone. He was most likely traveling with family. Therefore, the conclusion has been made that this William Smith, documented on the Weeks Company roster, was, in fact, William P. Smith, born in January of 1810. We know that he and his family traveled to Utah in 1852 because William's son, Hyrum, was born in Iowa in June of 1852 and another son, William Jr., died in Utah in February of 1853.
