Mary Jane came to Utah in 1851. She sailed to America in 1850 with her first husband John Alwin, arriving in New Orleans 1 November 1850. The first documentation to place her in Utah is her rebaptism 14 July 1852. Further research is needed to confirm the name of the pioneer company with which she traveled.

She later married Oswald Barlow.
