Mary arrived in New York on 5 July 1866 via the ship American Congress. We believe she was traveling with another widow of the same age, Sarah Hubbard, who was also listed on the American Congress manifest. Sarah is listed on the overland company records as "S. Hubbard", head of household, having purchased 2 adult food rations and enough luggage space for two individuals. PEF records list them as Sarah and Mary Hubbard.
Her birth year is extrapolated from the age given on the ship manifest. Further research is needed to determine exactly who these two women were.
