Additional Notes

While laboring in Los Angeles, he sang in an Elder's quartet for numerous funerals.  The mission newsletter spotlight indicates that 'they are just dying to hear us sing' (Calimis 1:4). Was traveling in Arizona in the interest of the M.I.A for much of April, 1921 (Calimis 8:6). May 1, 1921 reported that Elder Freebairn who labored in Los Angeles was an 'ardent' scout enthusiast and served 18 months as scout leader for the Los Angeles scouts of the church.  While in that position he became friends with Mr. Benner the Scout Executive. Elder Freebairn invited him to church where he became interested in a girl that he met there.  Freebairn had the privilege of baptizing Mr. Benner, marrying Benner to his wife (Clarice Fish) whom he met at church, and blessed their baby daughter just over a year later (Calimis 8:13). Reported May 15, 1921- Elder Melvin Freebairn and Elder Wayne C Gardner are laboring in Hollywood and Henry Luthi and W.V. Spackman are at Boyle Heights in Los Angeles (Calimis 9:5).
