Company records indicate Samuel L. Crain came with his wife and 5 children. The names of his spouse and children can be found on the 1850 Missouri census. The obituary of Sarah Ann Clark Crain, also confirms that the family crossed the plains in 1856.
The 1860 California census shows his name as "Morane Crane."
