Moses Van Buren Reeves
Moses was a Civil War veteran who transported cook stoves to Salt Lake City in 1867 after leaving the military without official leave. Though he did not cross the plains with a Mormon pioneer company, he was in Utah before 1868 and was baptized into the Mormon faith. He married Mary Melissa Hamilton on 27 July 1868 in Midway, Utah.
Newspaper accounts that give a much earlier birth date than the one cited above are incorrect. The death date given above is from a U.S. Veterans Administration Pension Payment Card and the Civil War Pensions Index.
