Nancy Serilda Goforth
Nancy's birth name was "Goforth," but she was adopted by Stephen Shelton and used the surnames Shelton and Goforth interchangeably throughout her life. In the 1850 Utah census she is Marilda Shelton. At the time of a divorce, her name was shown as "Nancy Serilda Harris," which was the maiden name of her mother.
Martha Jane, in her application to the Daughters of Utah Pioneers in 1920, indicated that she and her family traveled in the Melvin Ross Company in 1850. Melvin Ross was a captain of ten in the 1850 Benjamin Hawkins Company.
The inscription on her gravestone confirms the years of her birth and death and shows her name as "Nancy S. Gorforth Mantle."
