Niels Peter is the son of Niels Peter and Ane Margrethe Nielsen. He is born in the parish of Hune, Denmark, but because the family is Mormon no birth is recorded. Scandinavian Mission Records lists his age as 3.5 years. He traveled with his parents Niels Peter and Anne Margarette in the ship Emerald Isle in 1868. He is listed as "child" in Holman's list of passengers.
