Reuben Broadbent (1817 - 1909) Profile

Reuben Broadbent

Reuben and his wife Harriet sailed to America on the 1851 ship Ellen.  She died 14 October 1851 after arriving in St. Louis, Missouri.  "The Sketch of the Life of Reuben Broadbent, Written by Him Self at the Age of Eight-five years" appears in the  Find a Grave website.   He states that His wife's two sisters accompanied them on the ship.  Previous to his account in this website, it states that he remained in St. Louis, Missouri three years after his wife died.  This would make his arrival in Utah 1854.  His rebaptism, was performed in the Salt Lake City 19th Ward, 2 December 1854,  so this is likely the year he arrived in Utah. However, another secondary source states that he came to Utah in 1852, so further research is needed to determine whether he came to Utah in 1852 or 1854, and to confirm the name of the company he traveled with.
