The Winn family immigrated to the United States in 1860.  They sailed on the William Tapscott and left from Liverpool on 11 May 1860, and arrived in New York on 16 June.  The family included Richard, his wife Clara, and their children Richard S. and Harriet.

Further research is needed to determine the exact company they traveled to the Salt Lake Valley with.  However, they had to have traveled to Salt Lake sometime between 1860 and 1862 because their third child, Alma, was born in Utah, according to the 1870 Nevada Census.

Also of note is that the Winn family was found residing with Clara's brother's family (William and Sarah Husband) in the 1860 Pennsylvania Census, which was taken in the middle of June 1860.

The 1861 Perpetual Emigrating Fund accounts list Richard A. Winn alone.

Clara died in Utah in 1877, Richard Sr. died in Utah in 1882, and Harriet died in Utah in 1929.

His birth and death dates were find on his death record.
