Richard Bate

Evidence from emigration and genealogical records proves that Richard traveled to Utah between 1857 and 1859.  He sailed to America in 1857 with his wife and children on the George Washington, and the ship manifest lists their surname as "Bates."  His wife and children came to Utah in 1861 with the Job Pingree Company, but the autobiography of his wife implies that he was not with the family.  The first documentation to place him in Utah is a church ordinance performed in November 1859. Further research is needed to determine the year he came to Utah and the name of the company he traveled with.
