The deposition of Robert Gates is read at a court hearing held in Salt Lake City on 21 Oct. 1848. The hearing regards the behavior of a member of the 1848 Brigham Young company while en route to Utah. All those testifying in the hearing were members of that company, therefore it is assumed that Gates was also a member of the company.
