Robert (age 19) and his sister Alice (age 13) crossed the Atlantic on the ship Amazon in 1863.  The index to the ship manifest has incorrectly listed his name as "Robert White," but the original manifest clearly shows his surname as "Wright."

After arriving in the United States, according to Alice’s obituary, they were “forced to wait in New York for months until her parents and the remainder of her family arrived.  Together they walked from the Missouri River to Salt Lake.”  Two additional brothers, Richard (age 17) and John (age 11) arrived on the ship Hudson in 1864.  Their parents Robert Richard and Emma Beeson Wright, did not arrive in the United States until 1866.  In our database we have listed the parents on the roster of the 1866 John D. Holladay pioneer company because they received Perpetual Emigrating Fund monies this year and the Deseret News [Weekly] roster of Holladay Company lists a “R. Wright and wife.”   It does not mention any children being with them, however, although the entries for other pioneers give the number of their accompanying offspring.  Perhaps Robert and Alice crossed the plains with their brothers in 1864 but this is uncertain.  Additional research is needed to clarify the overland travels of this family.

In 1868 Robert was a teamster from the Salt Lake City 9th Ward with the John Gillespie Company.
