Samuel, his wife Elizabeth and children Mary, Jane and Eliza sailed to America in 1863 on the ship Cynosure.

Evidence from emigration and church (Perpetual Emigrating Fund) records proves the Brough family traveled to Utah in 1863.

Birth date is confirmed by his death certificate.  Surname is spelled Buff on the 1870 Utah census.
