His name appears as "Sam J. Burgess" on the rebaptism list, which shows his correct birth date. His rebaptism took place 3 May 1852 in Salt Lake City, which was prior to the arrival of that season's emigration.
In 1852 he was a member of the Salt Lake City 10th Ward.
1850 Pottawatomie Census lists Samuel, Marinda, Mary Ann, and Thomas living in Iowa on 5 November 1850. There is no evidence that Thomas ever came to Utah or that he is buried here. He likely died in Iowa in January 1851 before Samuel, Marinda, and Mary Ann came to Utah.
