Samuel Smedley
The 1900 Utah Census lists him coming to the USA in 1854. His wife, Eliza and son Henry's names appear on the 1864 Monarch of the Sea ship manifest with James, age 22. Samuel's, Eliza's, and Henry's names all appear on the New York Passenger List as arriving on the 1864 Monarch of the Sea, so it appears that the ship manifest incorrectly shows Samuel's name as "James." His name does not appear on any other ship manifest. The "Biography of Samuel Smedley," written by his son Angus, which appears on FamilySearch confirms that Samuel, Eliza, and Henry sailed to America in 1864 on the ship Monarch of the Sea and came on to Utah in 1864 with the Joseph S. Rawlins Company.
