Samuel Stephen White

He traveled to Utah with some returning Mormon Battalion veterans in 1848. Proof of that is his name appearing on the 1848 Salt Lake property list. His recorded birth year varies from 1820, 1821, 1822, and 1823 in different sources. The year given in his obituary is listed here, but there is no guarantee of its accuracy.
