Sarah Hayes (1840 - 1905) Profile

Sarah Hayes

She and her mother, Sarah Jennings Hayes, arrived in New Orleans on 28 April 1848 via the ship The Sailor Prince. First documentation to place them in Utah is her mother's marriage to Jacob Kemp Butterfield in October 1850.  They both appear in the 1850 Utah census, which was enumerated in early 1851. Additional research is needed to identify the exact year of travel and the name of the pioneer company with which they crossed the plains.

Her birth date is confirmed by the West Jordan Ward records at the time of a rebaptism on 13 April 1851.
