Sarah Jane Dewitt
The Ruben DeWitt family is not directly listed in the 1852 Outhouse Company. However, it is extremely likely that he and his family are amongst the 10 adults and 5 children that company records say made up the traveling party of Martin Potter. This conclusion was reached based on the following information: The 1852 Bishop's Report confirms that the Ruben DeWitt family was in the Valley by December of 1852. Martin Potter family is documented in the 1852 Outhouse Company with 14 other individuals who are not named. The Potter and DeWitt families are seen living closely together in Iowa in the 1850 census (Ruben's siblings, John and Polly, were even living in the Potter household) and again in California in the 1860 census.
