Sarah Thornton
Sarah Thornton was born 11 June 1806 in Paxton, Huntingtonshire, England and is the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Christian) Thornton. On the 16 August 1826 she married Prime Coleman in St Neots, Huntingdonshire, England, United Kingdom. Sarah and Prime Coleman had 5 girls and 3 boys. In 1841, the Coleman family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and sailed to America in 1843 on the ship Swanton and arrived in New Orleans on 16 March 1843. The family immigrated to Nauvoo and lived on the farm of Hyrum Smith, brother of the prophet Joseph Smith. In 1844, Prime Coleman and their oldest daughter died in Nauvoo of Typhoid fever. Sarah, now a widow and mother of her seven children was left to share the hardships and mobbings with the other saints. On 30 January 1846, Sarah is sealed for eternity to John Taylor in Nauvoo. Sarah and her seven children do not journey west with the Taylor family but waited until 1850 to travel out west with the David Evans Company. The company settles in Lehi, Utah and Sarah and her children helped settle Lehi. Her sons helped to build her a two-room house for her. Around 1852, Sarah divorces John Taylor. She marries David Evans on 18 October 1852 in Salt Lake City. She became the relief society president in Lehi in 1868 and served in that position for several years. She died on 1 March 1892, in Lehi, Utah, Utah, United States, at the age of 85, and was buried in Lehi, Utah, Utah, United States.
