Sarah Thornton was born on June 11, 1806, in Paxton, Huntingdonshire, England, to William and Elizabeth (Christian) Thornton. On August 16, 1826, she married Prime Coleman. In 1841, the Coleman family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They sailed to America in 1843, with their eight children, on the ship Swanton, arriving in New Orleans, Louisiana, and then traveling to Nauvoo, Illinois.  In 1844, Sarah's husband and their oldest daughter, Sarah, died from typhoid fever in Nauvoo. Sarah and her children joined the David Evans Company to Salt Lake City in 1850. After arriving in Utah, Sarah and her children helped settle Lehi, Utah.  In 1868, Sarah became the Relief Society President in Lehi and served in that position for several years. She died in Lehi at the age of 95, on March 1, 1892.
