The family sailed to America in 1862 on the ship Franklin.  The ship manifest shows their surname as "Peterson."

They helped settle Franklin, Idaho and in 1864 they moved to Bear Lake, Idaho.  Further research is needed to determine the name of the pioneer company they traveled to Utah with.

Early Danish records show his surnam as "Pedersen," but his surname is spelled  "Peterson" on his gravestone.
