Alternate Names
Thomas Bankhead
Birth Date
Circa 1832
Death Date
On 1866 December 11
Gender
Male

Thomas, an African American man that may have been formerly enslaved, arrived in Utah by 1850 because his name appears on the 1850 Utah census with the Bankhead families. He participated as one of the rescuers that were sent out in the winter of 1856 to assist the members of the Church who were stranded in Wyoming. He is not to be confused with Nathan Bankhead who has occasionally been misidentified as the man who assisted the rescue companies.

Sadly, in December 1866, Thomas was murdered in Salt Lake City and was buried in the Salt Lake City Cemetery. He appears under the name "Thomas Coleman" in a Church record and burial records.
