Thomas Woolsey was part of the 6th Company of Ten led by Charles Shumway. He left company on 3 June at Fort Laramie to take a message to the Mormon Battalion sick detachments at Pueblo, Colorado. The sick detachment was on their way to Fort Laramie. Thomas Woolsey never made it all the way to Pueblo. He returned June 27th.

Many secondary sources list his birth year as 1805. However, closer inspection of primary sources indicate that it was more likely that he was born in 1806.
