William Dawson
William sailed to America in 1850 on the ship Hartley. No family members accompanied him. We have only been able to determine that he arrived in Utah between 1850 and 1856. He assisted members of the church who were on their way to Utah and were stranded in Wyoming in because of winter storms in 1856. Further research is needed to determine the year of his arrival and the name of the pioneer company with which he traveled to Utah.
Although genealogical records have given William Dawson's birth date as 17 April 1814, church records (Lehi rebaptisms) give his birth as 17 April 1812, which date is generally confirmed by emigration information.
At the time of the 1856 Utah census, he was living in the Mill Creek Ward. The 1860 Utah census shows his name as "Wm Dawson."
