William Jones
The family sailed to America in 1868 on the ship John Bright. William came with his daughter Rhoda, her son Weston John, and William's daughter Elizabeth. Rhoda had been married to John Henry Sargeant in England, but from the time she boarded the ship to America and afterward, she and her son John used Rhoda’s maiden name of “Jones” as their surname.
An article titled “Rhoda Jones Bennion Funeral Services” in the “Memories” section of her FamilySearch record says: “With her father and her sister Elizabeth she came to America in 1868 on board the sailing vessel John Bright, being over seven weeks on the voyage and four weeks crossing the plains with ox teams, the company being in charge of Captain Murdock.” There is no company roster for the 1868 John Riggs Murdock pioneer company.
Evidence from emigration and church (Perpetual Emigrating Fund) records also proves that the family traveled to Utah in 1868.
William's birth and death dates are confirmed by the inscription on his gravestone.
