The Young Ladies Department of the Cooperative Retrenchment Association, predecessor to the Young Women Program, was established on 29 November 1869. In 1875 the name was changed to the Young Ladies National Mutual Improvement Association. The Young Women's Journal began in 1889. In 1929 a summer camp program was established and announced in both The Young Women's Journal and The Improvement Era. General Young Women President Ardeth G. Kapp established the motto "Stand for Truth and Righteousness" as well as the young women medallion of a torch with the profile of a young woman, during her tenure from 1984-1992. The young woman theme and young women values were also introduced during this time period. In 2002 an updated Personal Progress Program was announced and established. Learn more
