Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints first came to California when the Brooklyn arrived in July 1846. Missionary work occurred in the state off-and-on for decades.
August 1892 the mission is established permanently with no more closures. From 1895 to 1913 the headquarters is located in San Francisco, until 1913 when it moves to Los Angeles.
By 1930 the mission boundaries included all of California and parts of Arizona and Nevada.
