In the Spring of 1857, President James Buchanan sent U.S. forces to the Utah Territory to quell the "Mormon Rebellion." This was not an emigration train. However, it is included because at least one known member of the Church traveled with the army as a means to reach his family in the Valley, and several other members of the army chose to remain in the Valley after their arrival, converted the the Church, and spent the rest of their lives among the Mormons.

No attempt will be made to include all members of the army in this company. Those documented will be only those know to be members or future members of the Church.

The army was led by Colonel Albert Sidney Johnston. They left Fort Leavenworth, Kansas on 18 July 1857 and after spending the winter camped out near the burnt out remains of Fort Bridger, (now in Wyoming) they entered a deserted Salt Lake City on 26 June 1858.
