This group consisted of Saints from St. Louis, led by their Stake President, James Henry Hart. They left St. Louis together, but the company wasn't officially organized until they reached Florence, Nebraska. They were directed by John Taylor to travel closely with the Hofheins company until at least Laramie, Wyoming, which was approximately half the distance of the entire journey. Since Hofheins had more experience on the plains, he was given presiding authority over both companies during the time that they traveled together. Since they traveled so closely, accounts from both companies should be considered when studying the journey of one or the other.
