78 individuals, in addition to 18 teamsters and Captain Murdock, were in the company when it began its journey from the outfitting post at Wyoming, Nebraska (the west bank of the Missouri River about 40 miles south of Omaha). The Gilcrest family also joined and traveled with this company. Captain Murdock's company arrived in Salt Lake City on August 26. En route, three adults and two children died and teamster Sidney Beckstead was killed by an accidental discharge of his rifle.
