Upon leaving Indian Prairie we came on to Council Bluffs where the companies were organized to come west. We left Council Bluffs July 1849. David Moore was made Captain of our Ten, Enoch Reese captain of the fifty and Allan [Allen] Taylor captain of the hundred. I was only fourteen when we crossed the plains. The older folks had to walk most of the time. At night we all gathered around the camp fire and the children and young folks had jolly times playing games.

We arrived in Salt Lake Valley Oct. 20th. 1849.
