May 3 rd 1862, my father, and nine children, left Liverpool for America. I was then about fourteen yrs. of age. We endured many hardships and I can well remember the miles I walked and also helped carry the younger children[.] I was very happy free from cares and sorrows altho we had many. Elder James Brown was captain of the company of about 40 wagons. We arrived in Salt Lake on the 4th or 5th of April Oct. 1862.
