in the Spring of 1855 myself and [wife] started for America[.] Sailed on the Ship Siddons and landed in the City of Philladelphia on the 20 of April 1855. We staid around there until the spring of 1859, having two children born there. we then started for Salt Lake City crossing the Plains in 1859 in Captain Rowleys hand Cart company with our two little ones and footsore and tired and short of food we traveled over the plaines in that hard and laborious way and while a number laid down their lives through hardships and hunger that we had to endure God preserved us and our little ones and we landed safe in Salt Lake City that fall with thankful hearts to God for His many mercies to us and I pray we may never forget His kindness to us through that hard and wearysome journey.
