On July 14 a company of emigrants known as the independent company with C. A . Madsen as Captain left for Utah. The company consisted of 41 wagons from 1 yoke to 3 yokes of oxen for each wagon. The jurney was a very hard and tiresome one[.] tthe whole family including my mother had to walk all the way 1,000 miles. Arrived in Salt Lake City Sept. 22, '62.
