On July 27th we took the mule train, which consisted of fifty wagons mostly mules, a few horses and six hundred immigrants, under the leadership of Capt. John R. Murdock for the Great Salt Lake Valley. Four hundred and sixty miles west of Laramie City. Six persons died on the way, one lady died of sunstroke. The others were sick and died from hardship and exposure. All who were able to walk were compelled to do so. Mother walked almost the entire distance. We reached Salt Lake sometime in the latter part of September, 1858.
