Her mother with eight children started for Salt Lake valley of the Rocky Mountains with two yoke of oxen, two cows, one calf with all our belongings in one wagon with George A. Smith as our captain of 50 wagons, we all could get in the wagon but one and one would take turns in walking. We would walk and walk until we were so tired we would sit down until the wagon came along and then jump on the wagon tongue and climb into the wagon and take our turn in driving the oxen. Those that had been driving would take their turn walking. We would continue that day after day. Grandma would always help us get the things in the wagon and also to help with the oxen as her brothers were too young to do much and her younger sister Phebe was sick with Mountain Fever most of the way and had to be in the wagon. They arrived in Ogden, Oct. 28, 1849 so tired and so glad to get a resting place.
