<p xmlns:its="http://www.w3.org/2005/11/its" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">About the 1st of June I left Council Bluffs, arrived in the City of the Great Salt Lake Aug. 25, 1849. My mother, brother Darwin, sister Mary and my own family, 8 souls in all, including Helen, the third daughter who was born on the Platte River. We moved into an adobe house I bought, price 60 dollars, Block 17, Lot 3, Oct. 11, 1849.</p>


<p xmlns:its="http://www.w3.org/2005/11/its" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">June 2nd Harriet L. Chase was baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the age of 9 years.</p>
