Transcript for Christensen, C. L., [Interview], in "Utah Pioneer Biographies," 44 vols., 7:76, 78, 80

When the vessel Tapscot anchored at New Orleans, La. a man appointed by Brigham Young to buy wagon, oxen etc., for the immigrants had purchased a wagon, 2 pair of oxen and one pair of cows for each family. The train left for Utah immediately upon arrival of the Tapscot. The Christensen family joined the Mormon Church while living in Denmark. They were baptized into the church and decided to come and settle in Salt Lake Valley. They arrived on November 22, 1860. The leaders of the train were Nephi Johnson and A. H. Patterson. That being Mr. Johnson's 13 th trip across the plains with immigrants.

The first Indians Mr. Christensen ever saw were the Sioux. When crossing the plains a great band of the Sioux traveled along with the company or just to the side of it. One day at noon Mr. Christensen's father went to hunt some sage hens for some of the sick women in the company. His partner stumbled and by accident his gun went <off> killing Mr. Christensen. The Indians came into camp and mourned and cried on Mrs. Christensen's shoulder. Mr. Christensen states that here was probably where his love for the Indians began.
