MISSIONARIES' CAMP, Hand Cart Company, Fort Semino, Devil's Gate,
Sunday, May 10, 1857.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE DESERET NEWS:
We wrote on the 30th ultimo to you from Fort Bridger a report of our progress and the situation of the company, and take this method again of informing the Saints in the valleys of the mountains concerning the most interesting incidents of the journey and the health of all the missionaries.
The health of the company generally has been good, although several have been complaining of sore limbs and blistered feet, yet the Lord has blessed and favored us both as to health and good weather at this season of the year. The snow storms have followed us sometimes nearly all day and divided to the right and left of us, but we have had a sprinkling now and then, and also at night severe frosts, but to date we have weathered them all. Br. Charles Shumway has been rather sickly for the past few days, occasioned by cold, but today is rather better and around. Br. Fred. Gardiner has suffered from the effects of a rupture, and had to leave his cart and ride in one of Levi Stewart's teams for the pas few days; we expect them to arrive here to-morrow, but too late for us to see them, as we intend to take up our line of march at twelve o'clockp.m.
The Elders feel well, union and peace prevail in our midst, for which our thanks are tendered to the God of Israel.
The mail from G. S. L. City passed here to day, all well.
