EDITOR MORMON—Dear Bro: Believing that many of the readers of THE MORMON would like to know something of the going on in the Nebraska Mission, I will write you a short account of our operations.
On the 22d of April, I started from Florence with seventeen men with teams and seeds for the place selected for establishing a settlement on Beaver River, where I arrived [illegible]. On the 27th a farm of about 500 acres was laid out, and we commenced our farming operations and put in some seeds and wheat. On our return to Florence with Bro. Nathan Davis on the 2d of May the St. Louis and Alton Companies had just arrived. After everything was ready for starting. Bro. Wm. Martindale arrived here with the cattle for said companies. On the 11th inst., the brethren left for our new location, where we have about one hundred men. Bro. Martindale and myself purpose starting to-morrow morning and we will probably get to Genoa on Beaver River, where some more land will be laid out so as to be ready for working order by the time the men get there.
In consequence of the late season, feed for cattle is so very scanty. The company went out in good spirits and willing to carry out the instructions of the authorities. By the blessings of the Lord, we will raise grain and vegetables enough to comfort the hearts of the Saints, who are trying to do the will of the Lord. Some of the brethren have taken their families with them. May the Lord bless and strengthen His servants that they may do much good in gathering the honest in heart.
