Transcript for Dean, Heber C., [Interview], in "Utah Pioneer Biographies," 44 vols., 8:79-81

I joined the company for Utah at St. Joseph, Missouri, walking most of the way to Salt Lake City.

We left St. Joseph, Missouri for Utah in July 1866, Salt Lake being our destination. We came to Utah because of our religion.

We arrived in Salt Lake City October 1, 1866, Salt Lake being our destination. The leader or Captain of our train was Joseph S. Rollins [Rawlins]. We traveled from St. Joseph Mo. to Salt Lake City by ox team, there was a few mule and horse teams in our company, but the most of the teams were oxen.
