In 1864, her father Samuel, "Got a pass to cross the line into the territories and come to Utah and we started from Florence, 5 miles up the river from Omaha on April 1, 1864, and was all summer on the plains with ox teams. We had milk and butter most of the way. We had 2 cows . . . We reached Salt Lake City all o.k."
