We lived in Saint Louis for one and one-half years, then immigrated to Salt Lake City, arriving there in September 1852. We were in the Hyrum [Moses] Clawson Company which consisted of fifty wagons, my father often being captain. We were a long time on the journey, and I walked and helped drive the cows.

A large herd of buffalo, about five hundred [of them], stampeded the train at one time, driving off our loose stock. But we got them back again. A few wagons were tipped over, breaking double trees and tongues.
