we now found ourselves well fit[t]ed out for the journey consisting of Some forty cows and loose Stock[,] over one hundred Sheep[,] Six yoke of oxen[,] three brook mares[,] two good wagons well laden with Supplys. We Soon arrived at florence near Council bluffs--100 miles where we ware [were] organized and placed in line for the Journey[,] my Father [James Lake] being appointed Captain of fifty wagons[.] Nothing ocured of interest further than all passed pleasantly on our Journey until we arived at the Plat[te] River when the Colory [cholera] broke out in our camp[.] my Sister Sabra was atacted [attacked] but threw [through]faith and prompt attention and above all a merciful providence her life was Spared[.] My Bro. Barneybas [Barnabas Lake,] having mar[ri]ed Mrs. [Fanny] Electra [Electa] Snider [Snyder]. She was atacted and Soon Suscum [succumbed] to the dire disease[.] a number of others took it and Some two or three more died. the journey was tedious and w[e]aring both on men and teams. My Sister Jane was given in mar[ri]age to Stephen Ordway while on the planes [plains] who only lived to See the folowing aprial [April] when he died[.] Some two months later She gave birth to a Son whome She called Stephen who lived to the age of 20 years--when he was killed by a log rolling down the mountain[.] The winter had a heavy se[i]ge of the Mountain fever which come near terminating fatal but threw [through] faith and tender care he was again restored[.] We arived in Salt lake City Oct. 7^th 1850
