. . . towards Spring we got an outfit from Bents fort, consisting in provisions. wagons. teems, &c, to prosecute our journey to California, on the 20th of may I was apointed Corporal in our detachment, by Lieutenant W. Willis, on the 24th day of May 1847 we left Pueblo on our way to fort Laramie on the Platte river 315 miles from Pueblo, about the last of June we past Larimie and struck the Oregon trail, some few days in the rear of the Twelve. and a Company of Pioneers, who had left Winter quarters at the Bluffs in April. to seek a location some where in California for the church to settle.

our Companies followed on after them untill we over took them in the butifull Valley of the great Salt Lake in the great Basin of California 1050 miles from Council Bluff, where we arived on the last day of July 1847, the Twelve chose a cite for a City. in the valley called the "great Salt Lake City. in the great basin North America," while I was there I helpt to survey off a part of the City. and helpt to build Houses, &c, untill the 26th day of August 1847, when I left there in Company with the Twelve, on our way home to Winter quarters.
