Transcript for Jane S. Richards autobiographical sketch, 1881

On the 23rd day of July, previous to my first son, Isaac Phineas was born and died when about one hour old, he was also a nice, lovely looking child[.] he was buried at Mount Pizga [Pisgah], with the Saints; this was a hard trial for Franklin and I as we had left our home for him to take a mission to England and for me to follow with my little family after the Saints into the wilderness. On his return he found me at Winter Quarters. One month after we started in a large company with Willard Richards as President, for Salt Lake City. We were three months and a half making this journey (and I was sick during the entire journey) arriving in Salt Lake City on the 19th day of October 1848 a city of people but not a house, except an old fort which the Pioneers had made the year previous.
