. . .and came in Captain [Joseph S.] Rawlings [Rawlins] Company and arrived in Salt Lake the last of October 1866. Several people died along the way, and Mrs. Grundvig, who was lagging behind was dragged off by Indians and never found. . . . We had two large sacks of hard tack [that] we had brought from the ship that lasted half-way across the plains.
