I left St. Louis in the month of may in the year 1849 and traveled by land to councel [Council] bluf[f]s & arrived there about the first of July and Buried my son John in the grave yard behind Orson Hides [Hyde's] house who had been dead about one year. Before we left St Louis I had him put in a Zink Coffin air tight and that encased in [.i.o] when contemplating removing him when I left. when I left counsel Bluffs to come to the valley of the Salt Lake I joined myself to Ezra T Benson Company [.] I had two wagons and three yoke of Oxen and two cows and one young heifer. Brother Titcom[b]s Son [Luke] Drove one of my Teams. I arrived in the valey upon the 28th of October
